Suzanne Porter, Social Worker: The Purpose of the C.O.P.E. Family Support Center

Prior to her present career, Suzanne Porter, Social Worker in Contra Costa County, served in the needs of children and families as a Triple P Facilitator at the C.O.P.E. Family Support Center; an organization that provides educational opportunities and family support services to families in need throughout Contra Costa County. Based in Concord, California, C.O.P.E. is a nonprofit organization that looks to prevent child abuse and strengthen families through comprehensive support services and programs. As a professional with the C.O.P.E. organization, Suzanne Porter, social worker, was responsible for co-designing an anti-bullying resource manual and curriculum for Contra Costa County Public Schools. As co-creator of the program, Suzanne Porter traveled to schools throughout the area to train teachers and staff on what bullying actually is, as well as how to identify and prevent it while providing support those children who fell victim to bullying. Suzanne Porter works in the field of children and family services. Some of the services she provides families and parents includes therapy, parenting classes and anger management. It is only on a very rare occasion that she must remove a child from their home. For the most part, Suzanne Porter seeks to work with parents to create a more stable and positive family environment. Suzanne Porter , a children and family services professional, was once a clinical supervisor for the Walnut Creek-based Cherry Lane Program, which was developed and supported by the Youth Homes organization. As Clinical Supervisor, Suzanne Porter was responsible for the oversight and supervision of six counselors, as well as providing family therapy to kids who were on their way to reuniting with their parents.
